How to Design a Rustic Modern Home Office
Mix Materials
This one is pretty straight forward. Rustic style is known for textured, rough, and well, rustic materials. In this moodboard, I’ve used lots of raw wood and metal, as well as exposed wires to give the space that rustic feeling. Modern style, on the other hand, tends towards clean, sleek, polished materials. Some examples in this room would be the brass clock and planters, as well as the modern desk chair. A nice mixture of the two keeps the space from leaning too much in either direction.
Neutral Palette
One thing both rustic and modern styles have in common is a tendency towards neutral color schemes. Keeping your color palette neutral, in this case blacks, whites, wood tones, and metallics, makes it easy to merge the two styles effortlessly.
Organization
Modern design is clean and minimal by nature, whereas rustic design is not necessarily so. That being said, keeping a rustic modern space well organized keeps the two styles working in harmony, and keeps the space intentional, and avoids an overwhelming or overly eclectic aesthetic.
So those are my tips for creating a rustic modern vibe in your home office. What do you think? Do you have any other suggestions or advice? Do you love the look of mixing two different styles?
